Monday morning has a way of bringing everything to the front of our minds. Before we’ve finished our first cup of coffee, we’re thinking about appointments, responsibilities, family needs, unfinished tasks, and the questions we carried over from last week.
Sometimes, the hardest part of moving forward is feeling like we need to know how everything will turn out before we begin. We want the plan, the timing, and the assurance that we won’t get it wrong.
But faith often begins with a smaller invitation: take the next step.
“Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” — Psalm 119:105 (KJV)
Think about what a lamp does. It lights the space around you so you can see where to place your feet. You may still have questions about what lies farther down the road, but there is light for the step in front of you.
That picture offers encouragement for everyday life. We can seek God’s direction today while still having unanswered questions about tomorrow. We can pray, make a thoughtful decision, and move forward without having every detail settled.
Perhaps you’re facing a change you didn’t expect. Maybe you’ve been working toward something that seems to be taking longer than you hoped. Or perhaps you’re simply tired, trying to show up for everyone while wondering when you’ll have a moment to catch your breath.
God meets you there, too. You can come to Him honestly, with your uncertainty, your weariness, and whatever hope you’re holding onto.
Your next faithful step may be something ordinary. Making the phone call you’ve been avoiding. Apologizing without defending yourself. Asking someone you trust for help. Taking care of a responsibility you’ve allowed to overwhelm you. Setting aside a few quiet minutes to pray before responding to a difficult situation.
And sometimes, the next step is rest—recognizing your limits and allowing someone else to support you.
These choices may seem small, but they matter. They shape how we care for ourselves, how we treat people, and how we respond to the life God has placed before us.
As you begin this week, resist the urge to measure your progress against someone else’s pace. You may be navigating circumstances that others cannot see. Give yourself room to learn, to heal, and to begin again when you need to.
Take a moment today and ask: “Lord, what is one faithful step I can take with what You’ve given me?”
Then give that step your attention. Let tomorrow’s unanswered questions remain in God’s care while you respond to today with courage, kindness, and faith.
You don’t have to see the whole path to walk with God today.
Let’s pray:
Father, thank You for meeting us at the beginning of this week. You know our responsibilities, our concerns, and the questions we haven’t spoken aloud. Help us recognize Your guidance through Your Word. Give us wisdom to make thoughtful decisions, courage to act, and humility to ask for help. When we feel overwhelmed, bring our attention back to the step before us. Teach us to trust You as we move forward. In Jesus’ name, amen.
