When God wanted to describe something incredibly valuable, rare, and precious, He often pointed to rubies.
Rubies were among the most valuable gemstones in the ancient world. They were rare, beautiful, difficult to find, and highly sought after. Yet God uses rubies to make an important point: there are things in His Kingdom that are worth far more than earthly treasure.
The Bible says wisdom is more valuable than rubies.
"She is more precious than rubies; nothing you desire can compare with her." — Proverbs 3:15
God is telling us that His wisdom is more valuable than money, possessions, status, or success. Wealth can be lost. Titles can disappear. But godly wisdom will guide, protect, and sustain you for a lifetime.
God also compares a woman of character and virtue to rubies.
"Who can find a virtuous woman? For her price is far above rubies." — Proverbs 31:10
Notice that God does not compare her beauty to rubies. He compares her value, character, integrity, and faithfulness to rubies. The world often celebrates appearance, but Heaven celebrates character.
Rubies teach us three important truths:
1. Valuable things are often rare.
Integrity is rare.
Faithfulness is rare.
Wisdom is rare.
People who keep their word, serve quietly, love deeply, and remain faithful to God are precious in His sight.
2. Valuable things are formed under pressure.
Rubies are created deep within the earth under intense heat and pressure. In the same way, God often forms our character through seasons that are difficult, uncomfortable, and stretching.
3. God sees value where the world may not.
The world measures worth by followers, titles, income, and appearance. God measures worth by obedience, humility, faithfulness, and love.
Perhaps you've been feeling overlooked or unseen lately.
Remember this:
God does not measure your worth by what you produce, what you own, or how loudly the world applauds you. He sees the ruby He placed inside of you.
This week, don't chase what shines.
Become what is valuable.
Because in God's Kingdom, wisdom, character, and faithfulness are still worth more than rubies
