If Your Circle of People Is Not Lifting You Up… It’s a Cage

There are some environments that feel comfortable… but they’re slowly keeping you stuck.

Not every cage has bars.

Some cages are made of conversations.
Some are built through fear.
Some are disguised as loyalty.
Some are hidden inside circles that normalize staying the same.

And the dangerous part is this:

A cage can feel safe.

You can become so comfortable in an unhealthy environment that growth starts to feel uncomfortable. You stop dreaming bigger. You stop challenging yourself. You stop believing there’s more in you because everyone around you has accepted less.

The wrong circle will make stagnation feel normal.

They’ll question your discipline.
Mock your growth.
Minimize your calling.
And become uncomfortable every time you try to evolve.

Not because they hate you.
But because your growth exposes their comfort.

The truth is, healthy relationships don’t fear your growth… they fuel it.

The right people:

  • Challenge you to become better
  • Push you toward purpose
  • Celebrate your healing
  • Correct you with love
  • Remind you who God called you to be

Proverbs 13:20 says:

“Walk with the wise and become wise, for a companion of fools suffers harm.”

Who you walk with matters.

Your environment matters.

Your circle matters.

Some people are connected to your history but not assigned to your future.

That’s hard to accept sometimes because we naturally want to hold on to familiar people, places, and patterns. But God often changes your environment before He changes your outcome.

Sometimes elevation requires separation.

Jesus Himself surrounded Himself with people who were willing to grow, learn, stretch, and follow purpose. He didn’t build a circle around comfort. He built one around calling.

Take an honest look at the people closest to you.

Do they inspire growth?
Do they strengthen your faith?
Do they challenge your thinking?
Do they celebrate your progress?
Or do they keep pulling you back into the same cycles God is trying to deliver you from?

You were not created to stay trapped in environments that shrink your purpose.

God created you to grow.
To mature.
To heal.
To walk in freedom.

And sometimes freedom begins with reevaluating your circle.

Because if your circle of people is not lifting you up… it might be a cage.
