Scripture: “There is a way that appears to be right, but in the end it leads to death.” — Proverbs 14:12

One of the greatest challenges believers face is not choosing between good and evil.

It's choosing between what is good and what is God.

Most people can recognize a bad decision. The real struggle comes when we are presented with opportunities that seem noble, helpful, productive, or even beneficial—but they are not what God is asking us to do.

Not every good opportunity is a God opportunity.

A good thing can become a distraction when it pulls us away from God's purpose.

You can spend your life helping everyone, fixing every problem, saying yes to every request, and filling every moment with activity—and still miss what God specifically called you to do.

The enemy doesn't always tempt us with bad things. Sometimes he simply keeps us busy with good things.

Martha learned this lesson firsthand. In Luke 10, while Jesus was in her home, Martha was busy serving, preparing, and making sure everything was taken care of. None of those things were wrong. In fact, they were good.

But Mary chose something better.

She sat at the feet of Jesus.

Martha was doing a good thing.

Mary was doing a God thing.

Jesus didn't rebuke Martha for serving. He reminded her that she was distracted by many things and had missed the most important thing.

How often do we do the same?

We fill our schedules with good commitments, good causes, good responsibilities, and good ideas. Yet we never stop long enough to ask God, "Is this what You want me to do?"

God never called us to do everything.

He called us to obey Him.

The difference between a good thing and a God thing is often found in His direction.

A God thing brings peace, purpose, and alignment with His will. A good thing may look right on the outside but can leave us exhausted, distracted, and disconnected from what truly matters.

Before saying yes to the next opportunity, ask yourself:

• Is this God's assignment or just a good idea?
• Am I acting out of obedience or obligation?
• Does this align with what God has called me to do in this season?
• Am I making room for God's voice before making my decision?

Success in God's Kingdom is not measured by how much you do.

It's measured by how faithfully you do what He asked you to do.

This week, don't just pursue what is good.

Pursue what is God.

Because a God thing will always accomplish more than a hundred good things done outside of His will.

Reflection Questions

• What good things in my life may be distracting me from God's best?
• Have I been saying yes to people without first seeking God's direction?
• Where is God asking me to focus my time, energy, and attention right now?

Prayer

Father, help me discern the difference between what is merely good and what is truly from You. Give me the wisdom to seek Your direction before making decisions and the courage to obey when You speak. Protect me from becoming distracted by good opportunities that pull me away from Your purpose. Help me walk in alignment with Your will and trust that Your plan is always better than my own. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Remember: Not every open door is from God. Sometimes the greatest act of faith is saying no to a good thing so you can say yes to a God thing.
