We live in a world that constantly tries to steal our joy—bad news, betrayal, delays, grief, and uncertainty. It feels like every headline, every schedule, and even some relationships come with a “joy tax.” But here’s the truth: real joy is not circumstantial—it’s spiritual.
According to Dallas Willard, “Joy is a pervasive sense of well-being.” It’s the quiet confidence that, even in chaos, God is still in control. That’s why we’ve been diving into the message series at Go Church: Joy Unlimited—because joy with Jesus has no cap.
What is Real Joy?
Joy is not just laughter, happiness, or good vibes. It’s the deep assurance that comes from the presence of God.
“The joy of the Lord is your strength.” – Nehemiah 8:10
In other words, joy fuels your endurance. It is the spiritual energy that lets you keep going when everything in life says, “Give up.”
The Enemies of Joy – “Joy Stealers”
To live in unlimited joy, we have to recognize what’s draining it:
-
Comparison – Looking at someone else’s lane will make you miss the beauty in your own.
-
Regret – When you live in the past, you forfeit the joy of the now.
-
Anxiety – Worry about tomorrow robs today of its peace.
-
Unforgiveness – Bitterness locks joy out of your spirit.
-
Disconnection from God – Joy is a fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22), not a product of performance.
These joy stealers often creep in quietly but can be evicted immediately with spiritual intentionality.
Practical Ways to Live in Joy Daily
Here’s how to guard and grow your joy, no matter what life throws your way:
-
Start Your Morning in Praise
“This is the day the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.” – Psalm 118:24
Speak this aloud before you check your phone or email. Declare joy over your day. -
Check Your Circle
Surround yourself with people who speak life, not drain it. Joy is contagious—so is negativity. -
Practice Gratitude
Write down 3 things you’re thankful for every day. Gratitude is a gateway to joy. -
Stay Present
Joy lives in the now. Not yesterday. Not next week. Be fully here. -
Abide in the Vine
“These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full.” – John 15:11
Daily time in God’s Word and worship fills your cup with joy that doesn’t run dry.
A Prayer to Regain Joy
Father, today I ask You to restore to me the joy of my salvation. I repent for letting comparison, regret, and worry steal what You died to give me. Let Your joy rise up in my heart like a river—deep, steady, and full. Help me to walk in the present moment, trust in Your plan, and guard my spirit from the things that drain me. Let joy be my strength, my song, and my testimony. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Joy is not a luxury—it’s a lifeline.
At Go Church, we believe that joy isn’t something you chase—it’s something you carry when Christ lives in you. No matter what you’re facing this week, lean into Joy Unlimited and live with the expectation that God’s best is still ahead.
